Thomas Ruff Reviewed in The Brooklyn Rail

Thomas Ruff’s “jpegs ny” subseries at David Zwirner consists of downscaled digital photography depicting the disintegration of the World Trade Center (WTC) Twin Towers in the minutes and hours following al-Qaeda’s September 11, 2001 aircraft hijacking attack. Part of the broader “jpegs” series, executed between 2004 and 2022, the jpegs ny images are entirely digitally sourced, with Ruff’s signature pixilation immediately divulging their medium specificity.
