Proa21, Buenos Aires, Argentina
August 10–October 27, 2024
Proa21, Buenos Aires presents the second leg of the exhibition Francis Alÿs: When Faith Moves Mountains (2002). Two Decades Later. The exhibition marks the 20th anniversary of the original debut of Francis Alÿ’s’s iconic film, Faith Move Mountains and was previously on view at Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), Lima, Peru. It was curated by Cuauhtémoc Medina.
When Faith Moves Mountains was carried out in April 2002 for the Ibero-American Biennial of Lima as an event of political motivation and poetic expression, a monumental action conceived as an absurd project and executed by the power of collective enthusiasm.
The exhibition brings together a diverse range of archival materials such as documents, sketches, paintings, photographs, videos, and texts that collectively build the narrative of this work, which lasted only a few hours but has become part of contemporary art mythology. Learn more at Proa21.
