A print by Elizabeth Peyton, titled Ito-san, June 2024, dated 2024.

Here, Peyton depicts Toryo Ito, the deputy head priest of Ryosokuin Temple in Kyoto. In 2024, Peyton collaborated closely with Ito to develop her site-specific solo exhibition daystar hakuro, which was presented at the temple.

A prolific printmaker, Peyton has worked in a range of techniques, including monotype, etching, intaglio, and woodcut, among others. Speaking on the importance of prints in her practice, the artist has remarked: “I would say that, historically, prints have typically been the afterword to a work. But for me it’s a foreword. Often I’ll make a work after something I make in the print studio.”
