A statement from Josh Smith:
This past September, David Zwirner Gallery Los Angeles exhibited my new paintings in an exhibition titled Destiny. The show consisted of 20 or so paintings depicting various Grim Reapers riding abstract bicycles through New York City. I wanted to come in perpendicularly and bring a New York show to Los Angeles and I did it. Everything looked perfect and I was thrilled with how the exhibition went. I met so many nice people and my friends were there. It was really nice.
My only disappointment was that I wasn’t going to have a chance to share these paintings with everyone in New York. Even the paintings seemed sad about it. That’s the way it goes I thought. But then David Zwirner presented me with the unique opportunity to exhibit the paintings on 19th St. I was like… Oh hell yeah. Thank you!
So here they are. Back home for your viewing pleasure. These are tough paintings and I made them for you. Step out of the cold and come see them.
