Leslie Cuyjet is the 2025 Artist-in-Residence with Sarah Michelson’s Program for Dance Artists

Leslie Cuyjet is the second artist-in-residence with a new residency program for dance artists developed by choreographer, dancer, and artist Sarah Michelson. For the month of August 2025, Cuyjet was in residence at David Zwirner’s 519 W 19th Street space, furthering her practice exploring “the currency of presence (this side of 10th Ave)." Leslie’s residency concluded with a public performance of a new work, titled Endowed, which featured material created in collaboration with photographer Amelia Golden and Sarah Michelson.

To inaugurate the program in 2024, choreographer Jonathan González was in residence at David Zwirner’s 519 West 19th Street space for the month of August.

Leslie Cuyjet is an award-winning performer and choreographer living in Brooklyn, NY. Her dances often integrate text, video, and live performance while interrogating the performing body, personal legacy, and dance history. Mostly known as a performer, she is also a writer and video editor, roles that continuously shape her interdisciplinary artistic practice. Her tenure in New York includes performances and collaborations with Jane Comfort, Cynthia Oliver, Niall Jones, Yanira Castro, Will Rawls, David Gordon, NARCISSISTER, Kim Brandt, and Sarah Michelson, among others. Cuyjet’s work has been presented at BAM, The Kitchen, The Shed, ICA Boston, The Chocolate Factory, and Center for Performance Research. Recent honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants for Artists, a Princeton Hodder Fellowship, and an Outstanding Choreographer/Creator “Bessie” Award for her 2021 work, Blur.
