Passing Through Architecture: The 10 Years of Gordon Matta-Clark at Power Station of Art in Shanghai will trace the artist’s radical approach to art making from 1968 to 1978 through more than four hundred drawings, photo-works, films, and archival documents. Curated by architectural historian Mark Wigley, this show is part of “Architecture & City”, a thematic program of exhibitions and research at the museum.

For a major solo exhibition titled Horizontal Darkness in Search of Solidarity in Hamburg, Oscar Murillo will transform the Kunstverein’s main hall into an agora reflecting his enduring belief in geographic, cultural, and sociopolitical solidarity. Large canvases from the artist’s manifestation series, which debuted at the gallery earlier this year, will be presented with examples of the artist’s Effigies—stuffed dolls symbolizing the ordinary people of his Colombian hometown.

Featuring work by Stan Douglas alongside that of other artists including Joseph Beuys, William Kentridge, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol, Time for Fragments: Works from the Marx Collection and the Collection of the Nationalgalerie at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin examines the idea of the fragment as a form of artistic action. The exhibition’s title comes from a remark made by Marcel Duchamp to the author Anaïs Nin in 1934: “It is a time for fragments.”

Work by Marlene Dumas is part of The Expressionist Figure: The Miriam and Erwin Kelen Collection of Drawings at the Walker Art Center, an exhibition celebrating a collection of drawings recently donated to the museum by longtime patrons Miriam and Erwin Kelen.

This Thanksgiving, Yayoi Kusama joins the legendary Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® in New York. On Thursday, November 28, 2019, Kusama’s Love Flies Up to the Sky balloon will debut in the annual holiday spectacle in front of more than 3.5 million spectators and more than 50 million viewers nationwide, as the latest entry in the Parade’s Blue Sky Galleryseries, which invites celebrated contemporary artists to contribute artworks to the high flying lineup.
November 29, 2019–March 29, 2020 Curated by Anna Schneider, Interiorities. Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Leonor Antunes, Henrike Naumann, Adriana Varejão at Haus der Kunst in Munich asks “What happens inside us” in a time characterized by an increasing externalization of the interior, for example through social media. Taking the historical subject of interior painting as a point of departure, the show examines transnational and multiple identities that are at the same time fragmented and complex, as demonstrated in the work of these three artists.
