This week, David Zwirner in New York opened a group exhibition to benefit Thread, a Senegal-based non-profit community center established in 2015 by the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. The residency and center serves a nearby population of nearly 1,000 Senegalese, as well as international artists, dancers, and photographers.

This exhibition celebrates the project's two-year anniversary and includes 28 works donated by 29 artists and estates represented by the gallery—including Ruth Asawa, Carol Bove, Marlene Dumas, Alice Neel, Neo Rauch, Luc Tuymans, Wolfgang Tillmans, and more—as well as photographs by Giovanni Hänninen of Thread. The organization, in addition to being a space for arts and culture, leads agricultural training, provides a cooperative for local women to sell produce, and hosts meetings, classes, festivals, and more.
