This Is Not a Prop

For its next Viewing Room, David Zwirner is pleased to present a selection of works from the concurrent exhibition This Is Not a Prop in New York, along with additional works by several of the artists. The exhibition brings together a multigenerational group of artists whose work explores the liminal space between body and object, taking as its point of departure Franz West’s furniture and Passstücke (Adaptives), which ask how objects can function both as physical extensions of the body and as representations of the human experience. In addition to gallery artists Franz West and Wolfgang Tillmans, the exhibition and Viewing Room provide a platform for non-represented artists and artists from an international roster of galleries. Artists featured in this Viewing Room include Alex Da Corte, Jonathas de Andrade, Jonah Groeneboer, Gordon Hall, Hannah Levy, Donald Moffett, Paulo Nazareth, Elle Pérez, Oren Pinhassi, and Paul Mpagi Sepuya. With materials ranging from toothpaste to silicone, this selection encompasses installation, drawings, collage, prints, photographs, and sculptures by some of the most compelling artists today. For more on each artist and their work, please visit the exhibition page of This Is Not a Prop.
