Work by Anni Albers is included in Weaving beyond the Bauhaus, at the Art Institute of Chicago. Organized to coincide with the centennial anniversary of the famed German arts institution this year, this group exhibition celebrates the weaving workshop at the Bauhaus and its wide-ranging impact on American art. Following the closure of the school, in 1933, many of its artists developed ties to American education institutions, including Black Mountain College and the Illinois Institute of Technology, deeply influencing the landscape of American art in the process. The exhibition will be accompanied by a talk in the galleries, led by curator Erica Warren, on Tuesday, August 27, at 12 PM. Anni Albers’s work will also be presented in a solo exhibition at David Zwirner in New York, opening September 10, 2019. The exhibition will include the artist’s pioneering wall hangings, weavings, public commissions, and a range of her innovative and colorful works on paper.
