Katy Schimert to participate in Anne Lind International Program
The Canadian Art Foundation welcomes New York artist Katy Schimert to Toronto for the sixth instalment of the Anne Lind International Program, which runs from May 12 to 15, 2008.

Katy Schimert works in film, sculpture, drawing, painting and installation. Her unexpected pairing of materials, from wire and wood to ceramic and paper, brings a unique otherworldliness to her artistic practice.

Schimert has exhibited work widely over the past two decades, with several solo shows, including ones at the Renaissance Society, University of Chicago, and the Matrix Gallery, University of California, Berkeley. Her work has also been included in the Whitney and São Paolo biennals and in the exhibitions "Cosmos: Romanticism to the Avant-Garde" at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and "Abracadabra" at the Tate Gallery, London.

Katy Schimert has taught as Lecturer in the Sculpture Department at Yale University and as Visiting Professor of Sculpture at both Harvard University and New York University.

Schimert’s work is included in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Norton Family Foundation; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and the Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis, among others. She has shown with David Zwirner Gallery, New York, since 1997.

The Anne Lind International Program provides opportunities for Canadian artists to engage with visiting international artists, curators and critics in a setting of professional exchange and enrichment. Twice a year, visitors from international art centres and institutions are invited to engage with a group of Canadian artists in an intense session of lectures, studio visits and discussions.
